We are finally completing our first round of CR Transit routes! It’s hard to believe that we’ve been doing this for over a year now, but Route 12 is the final route and will be taking us on a tour of the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The biggest destination on this route is Westdale Mall and all of the services it currently houses. So come out and join us for the final CR Transit Bus Party (until they change the routes)!

Parking is available in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.

Disclaimer: Please check out general guidelines for riding the buses. You are responsible for your own actions. Also, I do not work for Cedar Rapids Transit or the city. I will gladly listen to your opinions and complaints, but they will be even more effective if you also share them with the transit department. See their main site for the latest contact information.

I was quite familiar with Route 10 in 2008 since it was my second route to get to work while my company was in a temporary location. It covers a lot of commercial areas  along Edgewood and Westdale Mall. It also serves Jefferson High School, and is generally packed full once school releases. We’ll also ride through residential areas along 1st Ave. NW and around Jefferson.

Parking is available in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.

Route 9 will be a new route for me. I have used it for short trips to the medical district from downtown, but never beyond 10th St. This path looks to be mostly residential, but also covers Mount Vernon Rd. It is very similar to Route 2, but operates in the opposite direction. This provides several options for riders along these two routes. Come explore Route 9 with us!

Parking is available in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.

I am very excited for this route ride because Route 8 is where I got my start riding the buses in Cedar Rapids! In a lot of ways it is similar to Route 3 in the consistent riders and route layout. We will be exploring the northwest and southwest sides of Cedar Rapids along B Ave, Johnson Ave, and turning around in the Stoney Point development. Highlights along this route include the Johnson Ave. Hy-Vee, Taft Middle School, Hoover Elementary School, and El Super Burrito (an excellent restaurant you should try).

Parking is available in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.

We will tour south through Czech Village, along Bowling St., through Kirkwood, and via Aegon. This will be our first southern route and is also one of the routes that has a major update recommended from the CR Transit study. We can discuss the improvements planned and experience the current issues first hand. This route also has “peak” times, which means it operates every 30 minutes during the morning and evening. Come join us for the first bus party in the snow!

Note the time change!

This will be our first of the route 5 variations. There are 3 that all go along 1st Ave. toward Lindale Mall and then have different routes from there. These are also longer routes than the usual 50 – 60 minute rides, but one leaves every half hour. 5B will go through the north side of Cedar Rapids and east side of Hiawatha. It also serves the Collins Rd. Hy-Vee and a large portion of Blairs Ferry. We might get lucky and get one of the brand new buses since the route 5s are some of the busiest!

Several bus party riders had success parking in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.
