Who: Everyone. Bring your friends and family of all ages. Children 4 and under are free, check out the transit site for other fare options.
Where: Corner of 12th Ave & 2nd St SE (transit transfer site). It is across from the African American Museum and it is part of the large parking lot, Lot 44. Note the time change!

This will be our first of the route 5 variations. There are 3 that all go along 1st Ave. toward Lindale Mall and then have different routes from there. These are also longer routes than the usual 50 – 60 minute rides, but one leaves every half hour. 5B will go through the north side of Cedar Rapids and east side of Hiawatha. It also serves the Collins Rd. Hy-Vee and a large portion of Blairs Ferry. We might get lucky and get one of the brand new buses since the route 5s are some of the busiest!

Several bus party riders had success parking in Lot 44 at the SE corner of 8th Ave SE and 2nd St SE: here.

This route goes by Mount Mercy College, along 42nd St. by Kennedy High School, out to Aegon and back downtown. I just rode this route for the first time and finally found out where Polk Elementary is and the Tic Toc restaurant. This bus also goes by the Cedar Rapids City Hall “North”.

This is my commuting route, so get excited! I ride this to and from work almost every day. We’ll wind through the north side of Cedar Rapids by Franklin Middle School and both Rockwell Collins’ main site on 32nd Street and their complex on Collins Road. This is the same day as the first Downtown Farmer’s Market, so come downtown to enjoy the festivities and then pop over for the bus party.

The second route to continue our bus party fun, and a completely new one for me. Route 2 goes as far north as Cottage Grove Ave and east out to East Post Rd. It also covers area around Mount Vernon Rd and has no path loops, unlike Route 1.

The bus parties will go in numerical order by their route number, so Route 1 will start us off. It goes through a large portion of the flood affected area including Time Check and Ellis, but it shouldn’t be completely depressing. Keep an eye out for redevelopment, new restaurants, and growth along the route.
